What is the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)Test?

What is the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)Test?

Construction workers must pass the CITB's Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) exam to verify their proficiency in health and safety. It covers a wide range of topics relevant to workplace safety and productivity, proving that applicants can operate safely while also protecting the safety of their coworkers. Employers benefit from peace of mind.

Candidates will have 45 minutes to answer 50 questions about legal and management, health and welfare, basic safety, high-risk activities, and the environment. In both Specialist and Manager assessments and Professional levels, these 50 questions provide more information. The test formats for all of the tests are listed here.

After completing the exam, you can earn an HS&E test certificate and a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card for £36. These cards certify that each individual has the necessary training and qualifications for their profession, which helps to improve quality and safety on construction sites throughout the United Kingdom.
Obtaining and keeping a CSCS card ensures that your employer's site safety is not threatened and demonstrates your competence, assuring on-site productivity and a commitment to continual improvement in health and safety management. Each exam has a matching CSCS card for which the applicant can apply.

The following is a list of licenses and certificates required for specific jobs: Candidates for the CSCS Card must have a Level 1 Construction Health and Safety Award and pass the operative HS&E test.
